I do not understand how Sean Penn can be such an idiot.
He says everyone needs equal rights, well as far as I can
tell, everyone IS able to get married. Now, changing the
definition of marriage is another thing. If you are unhappy
with the definition of marriage and want it changed, where
do we stop? Can I marry 2 women I love, can I marry a
woman and a man, can I marry my donkey? Why not,
I deserve equal rights... that is a slippery slope and I
don't want to ski on it.

This whole equating equal rights with redefining a word claimed by Christians to be their word/institution is getting old. It is not about redefining marriage...the word marriage is used to describe a union between two people. Polygamy, bestiality and incest are separate issues and are not being proposed in any mainstream way whatsoever. Gays in committed relationships do deserve to have shared medical benefits, tax equity, etc as straight people.
I disagree. If we break with the traditional idea of marriage and allow for gays to marry, then why can we not allow 3 committed people to also marry? For the same tax breaks and medical benefits? Why do they not deserve the same rights? The reason is because it is perverting the idea of marriage the the morality of American culture. If one of the most liberal states in the country voted it down, that lets us know Americans do not want this as part of our culture.
